Putin moves to deprive Europe of gas by drastically cutting its supply amid sanctions
Russian President Vladimir Putin has
weaponized gas exports to pressure the European Union into reducing its
sanctions over the war in Ukraine. The Russian state-controlled energy company
Gazprom has announced a drastic cut to gas deliveries through its main pipeline
to Europe from July 27, prompting Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to accuse
Moscow of waging a “gas war”. This is a fresh blow for the West which is
already struggling to cope up with the reduced gas supply from Russia in the
last few months. EU nations are yet to find common ground on how to wean the
bloc off its reliance on Russian gas, seeking to appease wary consumers at
home. Watch this report to know more.
