Khalifta Haftar
Oct 26, 2023
On Wednesday, the Libyan parliament issued a demand for the withdrawal of ambassadors from nations deemed to be "supporting" Israel as it fights Hamas in Gaza, singling out the United States, Britain, France, and Italy in particular. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been conducting airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, when Hamas launched an offensive attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,400 individuals, primarily civilians, according to Israeli authorities. Equally, the Health Ministry in Gaza reports that the Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of over 6,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom were civilians. Through an official statement on its website, the parliament in the eastern region of Libya, supported by military figure Khalifa Haftar in the divided Libyan administration, issued a warning to halt energy supplies if the ongoing "massacres" against Palestinians persisted. “We demand that the
ambassadors of the states which support the Zionist entity (Israel) in its
crimes leave the territory (of Libya) immediately," The statement emphasized. "If the massacres committed by the Zionist enemy do not stop, we demand that the Libyan government suspend the export of oil and gas to the states that support it," it continued.
