Baerbock: Nord Stream 2 Cannot Currently Be Approved

The controversial Baltic Sea pipeline Nord Stream 2 was completed weeks ago. An operating permit is still pending. According to Foreign Minister Baerbock, the requirements for a permit are currently not met.

According to Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, the controversial Baltic Sea pipeline Nord Stream 2 cannot currently be approved. The traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP had agreed in the coalition agreement that European energy law applies to energy projects – “and that means that, as things stand, this pipeline cannot be approved because it does not meet the requirements of European energy law and the Security issues are still in the room anyway, “said the Green politician on ZDF.

In addition, the United States and the previous federal government had also discussed “that this pipeline could no longer go online in the event of further escalations,” said Baerbock. She was referring to the tense situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine.
