A
small but highly dangerous group of former Egyptian army officers are joining
Islamist militant groups, complicating President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's, pictured below, efforts
to counter what he calls an existential threat from extremism. These men are
raising the stakes in an insurgency that has killed hundreds of soldiers and
police since the army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
They
pose a danger to Egypt with their knowledge of the Arab world's biggest army.
They can provide militants with training and strategic direction, and even
carry out suicide bomb attacks, pictured above, against government officials.
Since
Egypt is so powerful, it has taken almost two years for the anticipated militant
reaction from supporters of the Islamic Brotherhood, headed by former President
Mohamed Morsi. But, this reaction is coming, and it is made very dangerous by
the high quality of former Army officers.
Attacks
on Army units in the Sinai have proven deadly to the Egyptian Army since 2013
and are ongoing. Suicide bombing attacks in Cairo are also a worrisome
development, since the suicide bomber has proven in both Iraq and in
Afghanistan how very effective a tool for destruction they can be.
The
time is soon approaching when civil war between Egyptians will erupt. Just as
Isaiah 19 predicted 2,600 years ago.
