The Watchman On The Wall

The Watchman On The Wall
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Verse 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

1. "Holy Spirit, Fill Me" The Holy Spirit is our comforter and guide, promised by Jesus Himself. In John 14:26, we read, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” When we say, "Holy Spirit, fill me," we are inviting the presence of God to take over our thoughts, feelings, and even our dreams. This simple request allows God to fill us with peace, joy, and strength, even as we sleep. Every day is an opportunity for growth, and as we fall asleep, asking the Holy Spirit to fill us makes room for divine rest. You may have gone through battles, stress, or challenges during the day, but by asking the Holy Spirit to fill you, you acknowledge that only God can provide true comfort. His presence in your life is what brings rest to your spirit.

2. "Holy Spirit, Teach Me" C.S. Lewis, in his writings, often emphasized the importance of learning and growing in faith. Before you sleep, it’s a beautiful practice to say, "Holy Spirit, teach me." This can be a request for wisdom, understanding, or even revelation about areas in your life where you need growth. The Holy Spirit is always willing to teach us; we only need to ask. In the quiet of the night, as your body rests, the Holy Spirit can teach you things that might have been unclear during the day. Sometimes, God speaks in subtle whispers—whether through Scripture, dreams, or a still small voice in your heart. Make it a habit to seek His teaching before sleep. Trust that He will impart wisdom, clarity, and direction for tomorrow.

3. "Holy Spirit, Protect Me" Nighttime can sometimes bring feelings of vulnerability. We’re no longer in control, and in the stillness, the mind may wander to anxious thoughts. By saying, "Holy Spirit, protect me," you are calling on God’s divine protection over your body, mind, and spirit. In Psalm 4:8, David writes, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” When you surrender to God’s protection, you place your trust in His ability to guard you from harm, fear, and nightmares. The Holy Spirit is not only a guide but a shield around us. He fights our spiritual battles, even when we’re asleep. Trust in His mighty protection, knowing that He is always with you, keeping you safe from the enemy’s attacks.

4. "Holy Spirit, Renew My Spirit" Sleep is a time of physical renewal, but it’s also an opportunity for spiritual renewal. By saying, "Holy Spirit, renew my spirit," you’re asking for a fresh touch from God. This prayer acknowledges that we need constant renewal in our walk with Christ. Just as our bodies need rest, our souls need rejuvenation. In Romans 12:2, Paul urges us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” As you drift into sleep, ask the Holy Spirit to renew your spirit, to refresh your mind, and to help you wake up with a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Before you sleep tonight, take a moment to say these four powerful words to the Holy Spirit. "Holy Spirit, fill me, teach me, protect me, and renew my spirit." These prayers will help you find peace in God’s presence and trust Him to work in your life, even as you rest.
