On
Monday evening, the Health Ministry said that 369 people had been diagnosed
with coronavirus since midnight, bringing the total number of active cases in
the country to 2,766.
There
were 70 people hospitalized and 35 in serious condition. A week ago there were
just 22 people in serious condition.
Amid
the rise in COVID cases across the country, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett
along with Health Minister Nitzan Horowtiz instructed the Health Ministry on
Monday to promote two medical studies on the need for a third vaccine shot
against the coronavirus, which they said will provide decision-makers with
“vital information.”
The
Prime Minister’s Office said that the studies, which will be overseen by the
head of public health services in the Health Ministry, Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis,
will “evaluate the efficacy of the vaccine and the rate at which it wears off
over time.”

The
Acting House Sergeant at Arms appeared before a House committee and appears to
have named Ashli Babbitt’s shooter.
Timothy
Blodgett, in an exchange with Rep. Herrera-Buetler during a hearing on Jan. 6
that appeared on C-SPAN, seems to have casually dropped the name.
“The situation where you discussed,
where Officer [Byrd] was at the door when Ms. Babbitt was shot, it was our
Sergeant at Arms employee who rendered the aid.”
It is interesting that Blodgett names
an “Officer Byrd” in the context of Ashli Babbitt’s shooting. An
African-American Lieutenant Mike Byrd was reported by Roll Call as having once
left his service weapon in a bathroom in 2019.
“A
U.S. Capitol Police lieutenant left his service weapon in a bathroom Monday
night and the unattended gun was discovered later by another Capitol Police
officer,” Roll Call reported.
“After
the House adjourned on Monday, Lt. Mike Byrd left his Glock 22 in a bathroom in
the Capitol Visitor Center complex, according to sources familiar with the
incident,” the report said. “Byrd is the commander of the House Chambers
section of the Capitol Police and was on the job Tuesday and Wednesday.”
“Byrd
addressed the incident at Tuesday morning’s officer roll call and, according to
sources, told fellow officers that he ‘will be treated differently’ because of
his rank as a lieutenant,” the report added. “It was not clear what exactly the
lieutenant meant by the comment.”
The
New York Times reported more information about the unidentified shooter in
January, who called him a “lieutenant” and a “veteran officer.” He was not
charged for excessive force or for negligence after shooting the unarmed woman.
As far as the unidentified police officer is concerned, he is reportedly in
hiding. The Capitol Police is directly supervised by the U.S. Congress, and is
thus immune from subpoena.
“More
than six weeks after Babbitt succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the upper
chest, authorities are keeping secret the identity of the officer who fired the
fatal round,” Real Clear Investigations’ Paul Sperry noted. “They won’t release
his name, and the major news media aren’t clamoring for it, in stark contrast
to other high-profile police shootings of unarmed civilians.”
“The
officer who opened fire on Babbitt holds the rank of lieutenant and is a
longtime veteran of the force who worked protective detail in the Speaker’s
Lobby, a highly restricted area behind the House chamber, sources say,” Sperry
notes. “An African-American, he was put on paid administrative leave pending
the outcome of an internal investigation led by the Metropolitan Police of the
District of Columbia, which shares jurisdiction with the Capitol Police. The
Justice Department is also involved in the inquiry.”
In
April, the Biden Department of Justice dropped all charges related to an
unidentified Capitol police officer’s shooting of Ashli Babbitt.
The
unnamed capitol officer held aloft .40-caliber Glock handgun and pointed it at
Babbitt, while Sullivan shouts repeatedly that “there is a gun.” The officer
shoots her after about 15 seconds, while police officers look on without
intervening. The video can be watched below and the incident begins about 45

African American man with a similar hairline and a watch on his right wrist can
be seen armed with a pistol on the House floor on Jan. 6.
There
has been recent speculation about the identity of the shooter. Specifically,
there was an article in The Spectator that alleged the shooter was a member of
Mike Pence’s Secret Service detail. This would not square with other reports in
the press, but this does not immediately discount the conflicting report.
Donald
Trump recently asked a simple question: “Who shot Ashli Babbitt?” It appears
that the current House Sergeant of Arms may have given the public a possible
lead.

Target has now acknowledged that San Francisco is the only city
in America where they have decided to close some stores early because of the escalating
retail crime.
For more than a month, we’ve been experiencing a significant and
alarming rise in theft and security incidents at our San Francisco Stores,
similar to reports from other retailers in the area.
Target isn’t the only store in San Francisco to make changes
because of the continuous shoplifting. After 10 p.m. the 7-Eleven on Drumm St.
in the Financial District only does business through a metal door. But first
you have to ring the bell to let them know you’re outside.
Walgreens has already closed several stores for the same reason
and security guards like Kevin Greathouse are told not to physically engage
with those shoplifting.
“It’s going to be lawsuits, obviously they don’t want ourselves
or anybody else to get injured while we’re out here attempting to make these
apprehensions and leave it to law enforcement,” said Greathouse.

Facebook is Spamming Conservative Users
With Messages About a Support Group for ‘Extremists’
Facebook users are expressing shock and
dismay after being spammed with messages touting a support group for people
concerned about “extremists.”
“Are you concerned that someone you
know is becoming an extremist?” the message begins. “We care about preventing
extremism on Facebook. Others in your situation have received confidential
support,” the message continues.
The Facebook message goes on to suggest
that “you can help” by joining their support group. “Hear stories and get help
from people who have escaped violent extremist groups,” the message concludes.
The pastor’s church Facebook page posts
religious memes, church events, and Sunday hymns. His personal account, where
the message appeared, also posts conservative and church-related content.
Foster told American Greatness that he has no idea what triggered the message.
The Life After Hate non-profit support
group mentioned above was started in 2011 allegedly by “a group of former
violent extremists. “Today, far-right extremism and white supremacy are the
greatest domestic terror threats facing the United States,” the group asserts.
Another Facebook user who clicked on
the “Get Support” link was asked to “say more” about the extremism he was
witnessing. The individual “expressed concern” about what he called Facebook’s
“Communist and Fascist policies.”
Also on July 1, a private support group
appeared on Facebook “for those worried someone they know is becoming an
extremist.” The group currently has 34 members, five of whom are admins.

Spy Swap Puzzler
Nigel West's head-scratching claim that Gennady Vasilenko
was a longtime CIA mole inside the KGB
|
Nigel
West, the prolific true-espionage author (over 30 titles on British intel
services!) is widely recognized as one of the experts in the genre. However, I
fear his latest contribution may regrettably be West’s “jump the shark” moment,
as he ventures into the across-the-pond labyrinth of America’s own repository
of riddles, the CIA. I say regrettably because I was so looking forward to this
book, having covered much of the same ground myself in one of my own. Full
disclosure: in 2018, I co-authored Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy
Story of the Cold War with Eric Dezenhall.
Both
our books concern the story of KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, whom the KGB
imprisoned in 2005 after monitoring his close friendship with CIA officer Jack
Platt for almost three decades. Vasilenko, whom the KGB suspected of
orchestrating the final act in the 2001 takedown of longtime CIA mole Robert Hanssen,
was eventually traded back to the U.S. in the famous 2010 “spy swap” exchange
of 10 Russian “illegals”—deep
cover agents—who had been captured only weeks before while living under deep
cover in the U.S. for over a decade.
In
writing our book, we were well aware that, since spies are trained liars, there
was always the chance that one or more of our over one hundred interviewees
might have played us. An espionage author must always wonder, in the immortal
words of Aretha Franklin, “Who’s Zoomin’ Who?” The genre is a landmine for
potential deceit and hidden agendas. So I anticipated that the heralded Nigel
West (the pen name of former Conservative Party MP Rupert Allason) might
clarify any outstanding curiosities that we may have been left unresolved, or
worse, found errors.
It
was not meant to be.
Like
most perceptive readers, the first thing I examine is the book cover, and right
away I spotted an inkling of an issue: its subtitle, “the humiliation of
Russia’s intelligence services” over the spy swap. Really? We gave Moscow 10 of
their illegals who had lived here undetected for decades—think The Americans—in
exchange for two of ours, one of the UK’s, and one of theirs, Vasilenko, who
had told pal Platt virtually nothing over their four-decade bromance.
(The Russian had turned down Platt’s repeated attempts to recruit him but they
remained friends in one of the oddest spy relationships of all time.) In any
event, the swap was 10-to-4 in favor of Vladimir Putin. Not even Yogi Berra
could twist that trade into a “humiliation” (and nowhere in the succeeding
pages is there any proof of one.)
Flaps
Proceeding
on, I next encountered the synopsis of the book on the interior flap, which
describes Vasilenko as “the Agency’s key mole inside the KGB since March 1979.”
This
really induced a massive vertigo attack, because my fairly extensive research
concluded nothing of the sort; Vasilenko was at most anincautiousasset of
Platt’s who never told him anything of import in all their history together.
Further, Platt’s superiors constantly ordered him to break off the dangerous
liaison—with this so-called alleged “key mole.” Platt refused, and was removed
from fieldwork as a punishment. (Twenty years into their friendship, Vasilenko
did indeed play an indirect role
in unmasking Hanssen’s identity, but he was never a “key mole.”)
Still,
I worried that Dezenhall and I had missed something—it was certainly
possible—that we had been zoomed.
Imagine my relief when I read the book and saw that there is not one shred of
evidence in West’s book to support his incendiary “mole” attention-grabber. Not
a footnote. Nada. Zilch. Squat. Zip. (Add your own synonym here).
The
book flap further asserts that the 2010 swap was “the culmination of a CIA plan
to free a specific individual, Gennadi Vasilenko.” Again, completely the
opposite of what we were told, not only by Platt but the senior CIA and FBI
folks who orchestrated both the roll-up of the illegals and the swap. Then-CIA
Director Leon Panetta also covers the affairin his 2014 memoir,Worthy Fights. All
agree that Vasilenko’s placement on the swap list was a last minute
addition.
And
who else agrees with that contention? Nigel West! On page 129 he writes:
“Vasilenko [was] added as an apparent afterthought,” which completely neuters
the book’s ad campaign.
What’s
going on here?
Fuse Delay
One
might also ask, if the CIA and FBI pulled off the swap just to free Vasilenko,
why did it wait five years after his 2005 arrest to do so? After all, the FBI
was onto the illegals since 2001.
My
m.o. when first checking out a new non-fiction title is—after noticing the
cover—to start at the end; I want to see if the author conducted interviews
with new sources, or obtained previously unreleased documentation before I
decide to plunk down my money. Astonishingly, Spy Swap’s grand total of interviews
cited is zero. Nada—you get it. No interviews with Vasilenko, who has made
himself available to networks like CBS (60
Minutes), author David Wise, and to countless in-person chats with
Eric and me, including at Gennady’s home. Not exactly a tough get. There are
also no interviews with the FBI agent who ran the Vasilenko case for over ten
years (Dion Rankin), the FBI man (Mike Rochford) who persuaded one of
Vasilenko’s old KGB pals to sell the priceless Hanssen file to the feds, or to
the CIA’s Soviet Division chiefs like Milt Bearden. They all would have
informed West that Vasilenko was never a mole, not even close. Nichego.
The
same goes for documentation. One entire chapter devoted to the Illegals is
nothing more than a paraphrase of the Bureau’s “Operation Ghost Stories”—the
illegals unmasking files—which have been available on both the FBI’s and DOJ’s websites for
10 years, and scrutinized by many previous authors and journalists.
When
I finally attacked the body of the book, I was met with a “descriptive”
margin-to-margin writing style that was certainly popular in the 19th century
(see Conrad’s Heart of Darkness),
but which I strongly doubt will resonate with Gen Z. Mixed in with this sea of
ink are countless spy digraphs and cryptonyms that
might leave the casual reader’s head spinning. (Wait, it just occurred to me
that this style might have been intentional, all the easier to camouflage the
fact that proof of the book’s two main assertions are nowhere to be found.

Mason at Canaveral Lodge No. 339 in Florida. Thomas Stafford on
Apollo 10 and 18, Gemini 7 and 9 is a Mason at Western Star Lodge No. 138 in
Oklahoma. Paul Weitz on Skylab 2 and Challenger is from Lawrence
Lodge No. 708 in Pennsylvania.
NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Allen Sheppard, William Pogue,
Vance Brand, and Anthony England all had fathers who were Freemasons too! The
amount of astronauts known to be Freemasons or from Freemasonic families is

Another
popular masonic hand sign is the “hidden hand”. The
paintings and pictures of the great men of the past centuries reveal a common
thread which links them together. Is it a coincidence that many of them hid one
of their hands when posing for a portrait? It seems unlikely. We’ll look at the
Masonic origin of the “hidden hand” and the powerful men who used the sign in
famous portraits.
Most
of the people using this sign are proven (and often enthusiastic) members of
the Freemasons. Considering the great importance of this gesture in Masonic
rituals and the fact that all of the elite were either part of Freemasonry or
knew of it, it is simply impossible that the recurrence of this sign could be
the result of a coincidence. The “hidden hand” can, in fact, be found in the
rituals of the Royal Arch Degree of Freemasonry and the world leaders that use
this sign are subtly saying to other initiates of the order: “This is what I’m
part of, this is what I believe in and this is what I’m working for”.
This
hand gesture is said to be inspired by Exodus 4:6. In this biblical verse, the
heart (“bosom”) stands for what we are, the hand for what we do. It can thus be
interpreted as: What we are is what we ultimately do.
The
symbolic significance of this gesture might explain the reason why it is so
widely used by famous Masons. The hidden hand lets the other initiates know
that the individual depicted is part of this secret Brotherhood and that his
actions were inspired by the Masonic philosophy and beliefs. Furthermore, the
hand that executes the actions is hidden behind cloth, which can symbolically
refer to covert nature of the Mason’s actions. Some of the more notorious
leaders in history with their portraits showing the “hidden hand” signal
include Joseph Stalin, Napoleon Bonaparte, Karl Marx.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PLAN
The
world's top artificial intelligence (AI) professionals shared the latest
achievements in various AI sectors at a forum in Shanghai on Monday as a key
preview event for the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
The
Young Elite Symposium, which runs through Wednesday, jointly hosted by the
International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the Shanghai
Artificial Intelligence Development Alliance, gathered more than 50 young AI
researchers from home and abroad.
Six leading AI experts, including
Michael Wooldridge of Cambridge University and Sarit Kraus of Bar-Ilan
University in Israel, delivered keynote speeches.
The
International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, or IJCAI, launched
its China office in Shanghai at the event.
IJCAI
is the oldest academic meeting in the AI industry, as well as one of the most
important and top level AI conferences. The first IJCAI meeting was held in
1969. Shanghai will host the IJCAI in 2024 to become the third Chinese city
after Beijing and Macau to host the event.
The
annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference, or WAIC, China's top AI event,
will begin on Thursday in Shanghai.
Xuhui
District, a branch venue of the WAIC, is developing an "Intelligent
Valley" covering 1.2 million square meters along the Huangpu River for
AI-related companies. A landmark AI Towers project has been built on the West
Bund waterfront to attract the world's leading AI companies and research
institutes.
Xuhui plans to create a multitude of AI
applications in smart government affairs, transport, medical services and
education to help citizens enjoy a safer, more convenient and better life.
