Keep Your Eyes on Jerusalem

On Tuesday evening, the 24th of March, President Obama held a press conference. He made it quite clear to the American people that the United States would press forward with the creation of a Palestinian state, the so-called two-state solution. His plan also includes the “final status” for Jerusalem. East Jerusalem and other areas would be given to the Arabs.

At the same time that the President spoke and for several days now our northern plains of the United States have been buffeted with horrendous weather.

This is not a coincidence. This is another example of the linkage between our government’s actions and God’s land, Israel.

The Red River in Fargo, North Dakota rose so fast it caught people off guard. It is expected to crest at a record high 41’ on Friday. The previous record was 39.6’ set in 1997. Residents are praying that the 12 miles of sandbags and dikes they created will hold. It is estimated they need 2 million sandbags and they have 1 ½ million. In some places the dikes are 42’ high. North Dakota was hit with a blinding snow blizzard and that hampered the sandbag effort. The snow has now stopped and winds have eased today. North Dakota has been designated a federal disaster area.

The blizzard in North Dakota and South Dakota dumped 2½ feet of snow combined with 90mph winds; on top of this a F1 tornado hit South Dakota. There have also been tornadoes in Iowa and Nebraska. Snowplows were parked in garages because the drivers were not able to not see the roads to plow.

Wyoming has been hit with 4’ of snow.

Minnesota is flooded and ice is damming rivers. Officials are considering using dynamite to blow the ice apart. Browns Valley, Minnesota has about 4’ of water in town.

This catastrophe could top the 1997 floods that forced tens of thousands of people to flee homes in North Dakota, Minnesota and southern Canada in one of the costliest and largest flood evacuations in U.S. history before Hurricane Katrina. The disaster killed 11 people in the Dakotas and Minnesota and caused an estimated $4.1 billion in damage.

Unfortunately, next week is expected to be even stormier. Another big storm is coming out of the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia. The forecast calls for 1-3” of snow in North Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska with cold air sliding south from Canada. This storm will cause damaging thunderstorms in the South from Texas to the Florida panhandle.

Let’s pray that the Lord grants our people in the northern plains mercy and removes this awful weather.
